- When I composed this piece I wasn't sure I should add dynamics, but it seems a shame to give the performers no direction; while I'd like them to mark their own dynamics, they might not and just sing dully. Also, while most of the dynamics I've marked are fairly obvious, I've made one or two more interesting markings. The transposition for two tenors was made for the first performance (which didn't happen), in the St John's College Composers' Platform, Lent 1997, by Simon Wall and Andrew Hewitt, whose voices I thought better suited to the music than those of the basses in the choir. The piece was actually first performed in June 2000 in Clare College choir's annual choir concert (mostly an opportunity for the choir to listen to each other), in the original version with me singing the second part and Jon Saunders the first.
